mindfulness-jar-red

f/5.0, 1/50, ISO 3200

Today’s prompt is “on the table.” There’s generally a lot that can be found on my table, but the main object on my table is my laptop. Since I took a photo of my laptop not too long ago, I decided to change it up and take a photo of this. You’re probably wondering what it is. This is a mindfulness jar. If you don’t know this about me, I’m a counselor and being one, I am often on the lookout for activities to do while in session with my clients. I feel like this mindfulness jar is best used with those who have trouble coping with sadness and/or anger. It helps to calm them down. The thought is that when you’re feeling angry or upset, you shake up the jar (in my case, a coke bottle) and watch the glitter (I used glitter glue) fall back to the bottom. Pretty neat right? I’ve done this with a lot of my clients and it seems to help them. But this one, is always on my table.

k-knee

f/6.3, 1/60, ISO 3200

No, we’re not doing the AtoZ Challenge again! June 2nd just happens to be the FMS Photo a Day prompt. I didn’t want to use “kitten” again since that’s what I did last time. So instead, I decided to take a photo of my knee, yes, you heard right. If you look at the photo, you can see there’s a bit something off about my knee, there’s a long scar down the middle. It’s a little lighter now, which I hadn’t noticed until I took this picture. But let me tell you the story. In 2007 I had surgery on my knee because in 2006, I slipped and fell on a wet floor at work. To this day, no one is sure how I did as much damage as I did. I tore my MCL, ACL, meniscus, little of my hamstring, and some cartilage. I was told, on several occasions, that this is a sports injury. How I did it on a wet floor is beyond me. Anyway, that’s the story behind the scar on my knee.

AnonymousThat is so strange that you injured yourself that badly simply by falling on a wet floor. Does it cause you pain anymore, or did the surgery correct everything?ReplyCancel

AnonymousYeah…everyone was in shock that I injured myself so badly, haha. It gives me pain every now and then, but for the most part everything’s okay. 🙂ReplyCancel

red-white-strawberry

f/5.6, 1/30, ISO 3200

Happy July 1st! Boy oh boy, did June gone by fast or what? I’m not sure if it’s because I was participating in Fat Mum Slim‘s photo a day challenge or what. Speaking of the photo a day challenge, that’s right, I am participating again this month. I loved participating in June so much, I couldn’t resist trying again for this month. But, before I get started talking about the photo above, I have to take a moment to wish my wonderful husband a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I love you so much and hope you’re day is fantastic!

Now, with that done, let’s take a look at this photo. Today’s prompt is red + white. There are a lot of objects out there that I could have picked, but I’ve been on a strawberry kick lately, which just so happy to be red + white when you cut them. This particular strawberry also reminded me of a heart, so of course I’m going to take a picture of it! I’m sure there will be many more photos to come that have red and white in them. You’ll just have to wait and see what they are.

color-run-end

f/2.4, 1/4300, ISO 400

June’s photo prompts have slowly come to an end. I have to admit, I’ve really enjoyed going through all of the prompts and posting new photos for them. The final June prompt was “the end.” I decided to use a photo from the end of my trip to Kentucky. On the last day, we went downtown so I could pick up a couple more souvenirs for a couple of people. Little did I know, the Color Fun Fest was in full swing so most of the roads were blocked off. Normally, I would have been delighted about the Color Fun Fest because I’ve always wanted to go, but when you’re in a place you don’t really know your way around and you’re just trying to find a place to park, it’s not so fun. Despite that, after we found parking and were looking for souvenirs, I found myself walking behind some of the participants. The run had come to an end, much like my vacation and this was the last picture I took before I left. My vacation and my journey with the FMS Photo a Day Challenge has been fun. I cannot wait to travel back to Kentucky and participate in another photo challenge.

fudgery-delight

f/2.4, 1/530, ISO 400

I know, I’ve been a bit of a slacker lately, but it’s been pretty busy these past couple of days. So, time to backtrack! June 29th’s prompt was delight. There are so many things that make me happy, it was hard to pick what I was going to use to represent this prompt. Thinking about to my vacation in Kentucky, I remembered one of my favorite places to visit: The Fudgery. That’s right, The Fudgery. You cannot image how delighted I was when I saw this place at 4th Street Live. Not only was the fudge there DELICIOUS, but the staff were really friendly. I stopped here twice on our visit and both times the service was excellent and I somehow made friends with the staff that was there each time. They were a delight as well and only made my experience that much better. I only wish I could have gone one more time before leaving for home. Man that fudge was good!

P.S. No, I did not receive anything to say all of these wonderful things about The Fudgery. They were really that good.

concrete-bed

f/8.0, 1/160, ISO 100

Today’s prompt is bed. At first I was going to make my bed look all pretty and then force my cat into sitting there long enough for me to take a photo. Since I don’t have children yet, he’s the next best thing, right? Well, before I got around to doing that, since I decided to finally change my address at the bank this morning, a thought came to mind. I took tons of pictures while in Kentucky, one of which was a photo of a man sleeping. I’m not sure if this was his actual bed or he was just taking a nap there, I didn’t want to wait for him to wake-up to ask. This was also one of my first street photos, which is something I’ve wanted to test the waters of for a little while now. I still get butterflies in my stomach taking street photos, but it’s a start.

loving-mom-dog

f/5.0, 1/50, ISO 3200

Today’s FMS Photo a Day challenge prompt is Loving. If you lived at my house or even visited, you’d see the bond that my mother and dog have. We’ve always said that my dog is a “little lover” and she likes giving kisses and loving everyone, but no one more than my mom. Even though I’m the “mama” to her, she spends most of her time with my mom and is nearly inseparable when it comes to her.

Looking at the photo, I think there’s a bit too much white coming from the light, if that makes any sense at all. I should have shut the shade or blocked the light considering they were already in this adorable position when I started shooting photos.

dreaming-rainbow

f/7.1, 1/125, ISO 100

There’s something magical about rainbows. Today’s FMS Photo a Day prompt is dreaming and rainbows always seem to symbolize dreams, at least to me. They’re almost like a dream, if you think about it. They appear for brief moments and then disappear the next like they had never been there. And sometimes, it’s as if they appear just when you need them to, when you need to dream and need something to lift your spirits. Rainbows are beautiful and I’m happy I was able to capture this photo of one.
